Formatting issues

 
Sadly, the preview post feature doesn’t always offer the best look of what your post will actually look like. If you’re on WordPress, or really any content managing system, themes, templates and other similar plugins can cause lots of havoc when it comes to formatting. Once you’ve published a post, make sure to immediately go in and take a look at what it looks like live. Usually it’s as simple as going in to remove a few extra returns or line breaks, but just a little formatting help will ensure that your posts look smooth and professional for all your new readers.

 

Social media

 
Once you’ve published a new post, it’s time to spread the word so people can find you. You probably already posted a link to your Facebook or Twitter accounts letting people know that you’ve published something new, but how many times do you post about it? Come up with several different teaser headlines about your new blog post, take a few different screen shots, get a couple of different quotes from your post and then use that information to create totally new social media posts that can be shared for weeks or even months, giving your new blog post life well beyond the day you publish.

 

Email it

 
Every time you publish a new blog post, you should be emailing your clients and customers to let them know. It’s best to keep an official mailing list through something like Mail Chimp or Constant Contact, then your clients can opt in and you’ll be provided with additional tracking and analytics for your use. As you craft this email to your followers, include a basic introduction, title of your post and a link to the content a well as a short excerpt of the content. Be sure to make it easy for your followers to share your content and even end with a request that they share it out to their own social media network. The more you follow these simple steps, the more readers you’ll attract.
